One of the most imposing looks to ever grace a Pontiac product, the first-generation GTO—the name coined by then Pontiac Division Head John DeLorean—exuded pure muscle and demanded attention on the street.
This award-winning 1967 Resto Mod “Goat” blends a healthy dose of attitude with serious power under the hood. No expense was spared during the four-year rotisserie restoration that began with a complete dismantling, acid dip and strip of the frame, which was then powder-coated for beauty and life-long protection. The body was brought down to bare metal and PPG epoxied before multiple coats of BASF base/clear coat were applied in a Tyrol Blue hue.
Attention then turned to the GTO’s driveline, its 400 CI engine bored .030 over and fitted with TRW pistons, Kauffman Racing 75cc aluminum cylinder heads, Harland Sharp roller rockers and an Edelbrock RPM intake graced with a custom Quadra-jet carb by Cliff’s High Performance. The result: 475 HP and 550 lb.-ft of twist funneled through a Centerforce clutch package to a Tremec 5-speed transmission with overdrive. Final drive is handled through a 3.90 Posi traction rear end and 17-inch Rally II wheels shod in Tiger Paw performance radial tires.
Power is kept to the road with a Classic Performance Products Stage IV suspension kit with QA1 coilover lowering shocks, oversized front and rear anti-sway bars and an AGR quick-ratio steering gear. Multi-piston calipers and cross-drilled and slotted rotors on all four corners keep speeds in check. Inside, Legendary Auto Interiors supplied the parchment surfaces, with blackout trim and a baseball-stitched leather dash accentuating the interior. The custom, engine-turned console and gauge panel features Dakota Digital instrumentation, Vintage Air Gen IV climate control and a Custom Autosound stereo with USB port. The car comes with documentation from PHS Historic Services and all restoration receipts.
